Ginger Tamari Flank Steak

This is one of my goto dishes during the week when we are super crazy and have the evenings filled with practice every night but ONE!  I’ll get it marinating in the early morning and it’s ready to throw on the grill when we get home!

What goes Into it?

Ingredients:

  • 1 Flank Steak.  I buy the biggest I can get because it gets eaten!
  • 1/2 cup tamari (aged soy sauce)
  • 1 Orange (juiced)
  • 1 Tsp toasted sesame seeds
  • 1Tsp sesame oil
  • 1 Tbsp brown sugar or honey
  • 2 inches fresh ginger, grated
  • 4-6 garlic cloves, grated
How do I make it?

Stab your flank steak repeatedly with a fork on both sides.  Grate ginger and garlic directly onto the steak and rub in all in nice and good! Combine remaining ingredients in a Ziploc and add the steak.  Seal and mix up to combine.  Let sit in the fridge for at least 4 hours (up to a day or so).

About 45 min before you are ready to cook (or before you leave for practice) pull the steak from the fridge and let it get the chill off a bit.  Heat up your grill to 450-500 degrees and cook for 5-8 min per side depending on how done you like it.  I purposely char the outside of my steak, The Hubby likes it that way.  Pull it off of the grill and let it sit for a few min until the juices can redistribute and then slice VERY thin AGAINST the grain of the meat.  Serve over Jasmine rice (I start mine in the rice cooker before we leave the house and that way it’s ready and warming when we get home) OR if you have time garlic fried rice (recipe to follow) and a simple salad.
